The Importance of the Word in the Believers life (Part 1)

The most precious tool we have as born again, sanctified, righteous believers is our bible.  The God inspired written word that contains every answer to our daily lives and problems.  These promises bound in leather are our stabilizer in the face of diversity.  What really transpires in us when we not only read the bible but meditate through the passages that pertain to us?  As we begin to gain an understanding of the will of God for our lives in conduct, behavior, lifestyle and relationship.  And these scriptures or verses begin to gain a foothold in us.

The word says in Hebrews 1:3,”upholding all things by the word of His power”.  This verse is speaking of Jesus; all things are upheld by this authority.  His word holds the universe together.  A man and his word are the same.  If a man breaks his word this is an attribute of his character (all of us need grace in this area.)  God and His word are the same they do not contradict one another.

Hebrews 6:17-18

17 Thus God, determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise, the immutability

of His counsel, confirmed by an oath 18 That by two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope before us.

In Hebrews 6:17-18 the word immutability in meaning is unchangeableness.  Praise God, He does not change His mind on any matter that has been settled in His word.  The two unchangeable things here are: number one; God cannot lie and number two: this is set as our hope when mixed with faith.  He upholds all things by the word of His power.  This means any word ever spoken or written by God is not void of power to come to pass.  He cannot lie.  He is a God that does not change.  Unlike men we are always in flux or in a changing process.  But, God never changes.  His word will never change in promise to us.  To understand a mans words is to understand him.  To understand Gods word is much more.  It is not only to understand Him but also understand His nature, His attributes, His heart and His actions.  All the promises of God in Him are yes and amen.

In Hebrews 11 the father of faith were given a word from God to stage the aions or ages they lived in.  The ultimate culmination of all those words from God given to the forefathers of faith was for two things.  To bring to pass Jesus Christ and prove a relationship with a God that loved the Jewish nation.  The promise given to Abraham was by God that his descendants would be as the stars in the sky.  This was speaking of the church age, the type we are, who believed on Jesus Christ.  That’s how powerful a word spoken by God is when mixed with faith.  Rest comes into our souls when the word of God is mixed with faith.  You have to believe what was spoken and speak what is to come to pass.

Right now, today, that word contains the same power to transform your life.  But we have to understand the process by which transformation takes place in us to the word.  We have to understand the grace of God to us and we have to be active in a fellowship with Him for this to happen.  An example of transformation is; Ms. Osborn asked God for the desire of her heart and that was to receive a new car.  She saw others succeeding, and she had been a believer now for some time, in fact, longer than most in her church.  She thought to herself, “I’ve been here longer than “so and so” and look at them they are receiving good things from God, and some of them just came into the kingdom of God.”  So in the midst of looking at these others receiving from God, She looks up to heaven and says, ”Father I’ve been faithful in every church event, I’ve been giving to the church, I’ve went on mission trips and I have even served in the nursery when no one else would.”  So in here approach to God she sent out her resume of good works.  And continued doing her service in the church without resentment that her prayer was not answered yet.  So another month goes by and she has prayed faithfully believing God for Her new car.  This time in her approach to God she said, “Now look Father my car is leaking oil, I have four bald tires, its only running on three cylinders and your word says that My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.”  If this is close to anyone’s thinking you could understand the frustration that Ms Osborn is going through.  Well one day she runs across a scripture that deals with grace, so she begins finding all she can in the bible about His Grace.  She now has a definition that grace is the unearnable unmerited favor of God bestowed on a believer’s life.  A light goes off and flashes through her spirit and impacts her mind (soul) she understands now.  She cannot earn that car by good works just like she could not earn her salvation by good works.  So she repositioned herself toward God and asked this time in faith according to His grace on Her life.  She removed herself from the arena of good works, and placed her self in the standing Jesus Christ purchased for her, which was never according to her works anyhow.  She never compared herself to another person anymore knowing that the same grace given to them was also given to her.  She had received a transformation that came from the word of God to change her that now will change her problem.  She mixed the word with faith in His grace.  In this, God was able to deliver to her that car.

The word was sown on ground in her life that was producing out of works not faith in the grace that was given to her.  The transformation that took place in her happened when the word took enough root in her to produce according to what the Bible said and not how religion had programmed her.  Religion will place us in an area of adaptation to outward works without personal relationship.  The gospel was delivered to us out of grace.  And by that “grace” works are evident out of a relationship based on intimate Fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ.  So anytime we base our receiving from God on the basis of our works, we have miss appropriated the very work we are to believe in.  This is one of the adversaries biggest deception is for us to base your relationship with your savior on works and not on fellowship in faith of that grace.  Grace will cover your faults as you progressively overcome them.  Grace is not a license to fence walk Christianity.  God works with us despite ourselves.  In believing God, our receiving from Him is not on the basis of our works but on the basis of His (Jesus Christ). We exchange our standing for the standing that was purchased for us.  If we have no victory in our life its because we have not studied the victory we do have.  We are not sinners anymore, we are sons, saints in the household of God, pilgrims and sojourners here not of this world, we are called righteous by Him who made us righteous.
